Connecticut State Police Troop B

The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Counterfeit bill passed State Police are investigating an incident at the Lakeville Patco Handy Stop, on Sharon Road, that occurred during a sales transaction at about 8:37 a.m. on Feb. 24. A patron passed a counterfeit $20 bill. Driver leaves the scene A 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee was discovered on the front lawn of a home at 176 Kent Road (Route 7) in Cornwall at about 8:04 a.m. on Feb. 25. The vehicle was being driven south when it went off the road. It hit a fence and tree stump. It sustained front-end damage. The operator locked the car and left the scene. The vehicle is registered to Mark Basso, 49, of Torrington. DUI William Zampaglione, 30, of Winsted was stopped by police on North Elm Street in North Canaan at 10:48 p.m. on Feb. 26. He was charged with driving under the influence and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Bond was set at $500. He was to appear in Bantam Superior Court March 5. Pickup hits guardrail Mathew Ruby, 39, of Manchester, Conn., was driving west on Route 44 in Salisbury Feb. 29. At about 4:49 p.m., he lost control on a curve. The 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 hit a guardrail. It sustained right front-quarter-panel damage. Ruby was not injured. He was charged with traveling too fast for conditions. DUI Mark Grusauski, 50, of Salisbury was stopped on Route 41 in Salisbury at 7:04 p.m. on March 1 for driving erratically. He was charged with driving under the influence and making a restricted turn. Bond was set at $500. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court March 19. Pickup hits guardrail Keith Sanford, 25, of Litchfield was driving west on Route 4 in Sharon March 2. At about 11:37 p.m., he lost control on snow-covered road. The 2001 Ford F150 slid sideways across the road. It hit about 20 guardrail posts and 150 feet of rope. It came to a rest in the westbound lane. The truck was heavily damaged. The driver and passenger Ashley Hotchkiss, 19, of Torrington were not injured. Sanford was charged with traveling too fast for conditions. Counterfeit bill reported The discovery of a counterfeit $20 bill in her possession was reported to police March 3 by Caroline Sullivan of Lakeville. The incident is under investigation. Warrant arrest Wyatt Stanton, 26, of North Canaan turned himself in on a warrant March 3 in connection with an Oct. 5, 2011 incident at his Ashley Falls Road home. He was charged with tampering with physical evidence, interfering with a police officer, illegal manufacture/sale of drugs, possession of a controlled substance and illegal possession of explosives. Bond was set at $8,500. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court March 9. Accident investigated A pickup truck was found at 4:21 a.m. March 3, unoccupied and having been involved in an accident on Salmon Kill Road in Salisbury. The 2005 Chevrolet Colorado was being driven south when it went off the right shoulder. It rolled over and came to rest upright. It is registered to Damian Cortsen, 39, of Millerton. The accident is under investigation. The Lakeville Journal will publish the outcome of police charges. 100 years ago – April 1924

The nuisance of needless noise from automobiles is sharply dealt with in Document 15 of the Motor Vehicle Department, especially the practice of tooting at intersections to signify plan to hold speed and grab right of way, instead of slowing down and using eyes. Similar abuses are calling people with the horn, tire chains slapping, brakes shrieking, etc. All unnecessary noise is illegal and subject to fine.
