Because of the soup kitchen’s closing, Bob [McCarthy, Kelly’s husband and co-owner of Kelly’s Kitchen] and I said, ‘Hey, we have a restaurant. We can be open and feed people on Christmas Day.’ ”Kelly McCarthy said that last year the restaurant served more than 150 residents.“We had a very big crowd last year and we’ll probably have more this year,” she said. The restaurant is looking for volunteers to help out during the event.McCarthy added that she is also looking for donations, both monetary and canned goods, to help with preparing the Christmas meals. For more information, call the restaurant at 860-738-9828.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
