Canaan Child Care holds preschool fashion show

NORTH CANAAN — Pre-schoolers strutted on the runway in the morning sunshine. Some worked it, bringing attitude. A few were too shy to peek out from under hats or behind masks. The Aug. 17 fashion show was a first at the Canaan Child Care Center. The idea was the inspiration of Talia Prindle, a Sharon resident and Fashion Institute of Technology student who is working there over the summer. With her creative guidance, the children designed their own outfits and made invitations and swag bags for family members. The crowd that lined the playground runway was filled with parents, grandparents and siblings. The festivities doubled as a graduation from preschool to kindergarten.Center Director Fran Chapell explained that the show was essentially part of a mission initiative stemming from the recent NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accreditation.Under NAEYC, the center offers advanced levels of education, more education for its teachers and innovative approaches to school readiness,to help children grow socially, emotionally, physically and developmentally, so as to foster independence and creative thinking for the future“Walking down the runway is a great way to boost kids’ confidence, which is just what they need as they enter this new stage in their lives,” Chapell said.
