Doing the two-step

MILLERTON — The Millerton Fire Company held its annual block dance and barbecue on Saturday, July 30. The event is the single biggest fundraiser for the department and brings in roughly half of its yearly funds, according to Mariley Najdek, who helped the fire company organize the event. The money raised will help the company buy safety equipment, a truck for brush fires and other items it needs. “I think it’s a wonderful family event,” said Najdek. “It’s a way for the fire company to give back to the community.” Second Assistant Chief Josh Schultz said that the block dance is not only a fun event, but it is also a way for the community to come together and show their support for the fire company. “We support the community and the community supports us,” said Schultz.

As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
