Norfolk Library hosts Jane Rubin art show

NORFOLK — During the month of May, the Norfolk Library will exhibit the paintings of Jane Rubin. In the show “The Lost Garden,” Rubin will show a series of paintings she created about a garden she left behind in Vermont.When she and her husband, Manning, moved to Norfolk four years ago, she left the garden she had designed and worked on for almost seven years. Rubin is an abstract painter whose work is always about nature. She won the Reginald Marsh Memorial Scholarship to the Art Students League at the age of 10, was featured in a one-person show at the Loring Art Gallery at age 15 and received a scholarship to study with the world renowned artist, Oscar Kokoschka, at 18. She has shown in many shows in New York and all over New England and her work is in many private collections.In addition to large, multi-media works on paper, the Norfolk show includes small charcoal drawings.Many of Rubin’s recent paintings can be found online at www.janerubinart.com.An opening reception will be held Sunday, May 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Norfolk Library, 9 Greenwoods Road East (Route 44), Norfolk. Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”

Robert Cray’s soulful blues coming to Infinity Hall

Blues legend Robert Cray will be bringing his stinging, funky guitar and soulful singing to Infinity Hall Norfolk on Friday, March 29.

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.
