Salisbury and Kent hockey teams to face off at Michigan Stadium

The Salisbury School and Kent School varsity hockey teams will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to play each other in an outdoor game at historic Michigan Stadium at the University of Michigan. The game will take place on Friday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m.

Kent is coached by former Michigan Wolverine Matt Herr.

Players on both teams will then have a chance to watch a historic match between the University of Michigan hockey team and Michigan State in front of what is expected to be a record-breaking crowd of more than 117,000 fans. The Michigan vs. MSU game is being promoted as “The Big Chill at the Big House.� The stadium was recently renovated.

Salisbury’s Head Varsity Coach Andrew Will said, “This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our kids and they can’t wait to play this outdoor game at the Big House. We’re extremely appreciative of Kent for offering us this opportunity, and it’s going to be an amazing weekend.�

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
