Four tornadoes confirmed in state last week

LITCHFIELD COUNTY — The National Weather Service confirmed last week that four tornadoes touched down in and around Litchfield County when a large storm cell passed over the area July 21.

The tornadoes appeared in Litchfield, Thomaston, Bristol and Terryville and knocked down trees and wires across the region. No injuries were reported,  but  there was significant damage in several towns.

The most significant tornado touched down in Bristol and was rated EF-1, with winds close to 90 mph. The other tornadoes were brief.

Connecticut Light & Power reported Thursday that more than 200 utility crews from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire were called in to restore service to more than 81,500 customers who lost power.

After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
