Edward O. Heacox Sr.

Sharon — Edward O. Heacox Sr., 78, of Calkinstown Road, passed away peacefully at home July 22, 2010. He was the husband for 57 years of Kathryn (Maier) Heacox.  

Ed was born Aug. 1, 1931, in Winsted. He was the son of the late Lillian (Caton) and Joseph John Heacox.

He attended local schools in New Hartford, graduating from The Gilbert School and the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. His friendships with his Kappa Psi brothers continued to the end of his life.

He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War era.

His cherished values were family, faith, pharmacy and friends. He was a lifelong parishioner of the Catholic Church.

He was a devoted family man who always put others first, and who enjoyed family gatherings.

He considered the Sharon Pharmacy, which he established in 1961, as his seventh child. He was proud of the Sharon Pharmacy, which is one of the few remaining independent, family-owned pharmacies in the state of Connecticut.

His contributions to the community include serving as chairman of the Sharon Board of Education and as president of the Sharon Lions Club, Sharon PTA and St. Bernard’s Parish Council, and two terms as selectman for the town of Sharon. He was a member of the Advisory Committee at Salisbury Bank and Trust.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by six children, Edward Jr., Karen, Mary, Joseph, David and Christopher; and he was “Poppyâ€� to five grandchildren, Lynnette, Benjamin, Ryan, Tyler and Kathryn. He is also survived by one sister, Phyllis Heacox Sherman of Wickford, R.I.; one aunt, Ruth Scanlon of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.

A requiem Mass was held July 26 at St. Bernard’s Church in Sharon. The Kenny Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sharon Ambulance Squad, Little Guild of St. Francis or St. Bernard’s Church.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”

Robert Cray’s soulful blues coming to Infinity Hall

Blues legend Robert Cray will be bringing his stinging, funky guitar and soulful singing to Infinity Hall Norfolk on Friday, March 29.

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.

Cabaret comes to St. Andrew's in Kent

Music in the Nave will again tap into local talent April 6 at 7 p.m. when its features George Potts in an intimate cabaret concert in the St. Andrew’s Church parish house.

Pott is a well-known figure in the community, both through his presence in the perennially popular Fife ‘n Drum, the restaurant started by his father-in-law, renowned pianist Dolph Trayman, and through his own career as a folk musician.
