Family Day: fun in the sun at Emery Park

KENT — It was blazing hot and a perfect day to spend out at the beach at Emery Park. Which is what everyone in town was invited to do at the annual Family Day organized by Kent Park and Recreation and held on Saturday, July 24.

Lynn Harrington, a member of the Park and Recreation Commission, was one of the organizers of the event.

“I just wanted to find a way to get the word out about the improvements the town has made to the park over the years and give folks a chance to have some fun, Harrington said.

Activities included swimming, sandcastle building, hula hoops for the kids and a barbecue.

“This is the first time in at least 10 years that we’ve held this event, Park and Recreation Director Lesly Ferris said. “We wanted to give Kent residents an opportunity to have fun and a swim.

Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
