Firemen's parade Saturday, July 10

MILLBROOK — Millbrook’s first firemen’s parade was in 1888 and the fire department revived this grand tradition in the mid 1990s.

This year 22 fire companies coming from Hudson and Patterson and Falls Village and Kent, Conn., will march up Franklin Avenue on Saturday, July 10, at 6 p.m., to the Fireman’s Carnival at the Thorne Building.

Dignitaries in convertibles, including town and village officials and politicians Steve Saland and Mark Molinaro, will lead the way followed by firefighters, fire engines and marching bands.

“Millbrook’s parade is the favorite event for all the fire companies in the area, Millbrook Fire Department President Matt Rochfort said.

The Fireman’s Carnival started on Wednesday, July 7, around the Thorne Building and will continue through Saturday night. There’s karaoke for kids on Thursday and Saturday night from 8 to 11 p.m. and live music on Friday night. In addition to the rides and games, the Millbrook Fire Department will have its own food booth.

The net proceeds from the event are used to buy equipment and supplies for the volunteer fire department of Millbrook.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
