Achieving a lofty goal

SHARON — Will Trowbridge, a Sharon iron master, and John Haas, of Haas Welding in Amenia, ascended to the steeple of the Sharon Congregational Church on Tuesday morning to replace the old weather vane at its top.

The new vane they made was an exact replica of the one that had been there for more than a century. The old one was taken down recently when the steeple was repainted.

The cherry picker and crane were donated for the morning by Tommy Laganga of DBL Industries in Torrington.

The new weather vane will be spotlighted by four lights installed on the steeple by Jessie Loucks (an electrician, and the son of First Selectman Bob Loucks).

Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
