No lax attitude for Housy girls varsity lacrosse team

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School varsity girls lacrosse team started their season on Thursday, April 8, with a home game against Lewis Mills.

The Lakeville Journal went to press before the game was held and will have results of the game in the next issue.

A week before the game was held, team coach Spike Magyar, who is in his fifth season of coaching for Housy, said he is very optimistic about the new season.

“I think we have a good senior class and some upperclassmen, and we’re all looking forward to the season, Magyar said. “We have a new goalie, Brook Kallstrom, who has never played goalie before but is a senior. We also have two senior defense players, Lynzie Adams and Amanda Lindquist. As for offense, we have two returning juniors, Megan Williams and Chelsea Zenk.

While the team will have nine members playing for the first time, it will also have 13 players returning from last year.

“To win this year, I think we have to be good at defense, Magyar said. “The buck stops with the goalie, but the other seven girls on the field determine whether or not the goalie does well. As long as we can move the ball and play good defense then we will be OK.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
