SWSA sends three to Lake Placid

SALISBURY — Three young ski jumpers from the Northwest Corner took part in the Empire State Games at Lake Placid, N.Y., on Feb. 20. They traveled as members of the Salisbury Winter Sports Association.

Arenal Hruby of North Canaan took second place in the J5 women’s division.

Caleb Gilbert of Salisbury took seventh out of 12 in J5 boys and also competed in the nordic combined portion of the competition.

Jeremy Downs of Falls Village took seventh in the 48-meter jump competition in the scholastic division, which was the largest class of the weekend.

All three athletes and perhaps a few more will be heading to Lake Placid again in mid-March to compete in the Lions Club annual meet on March 20.
