Housy hockey bows to Bolton

SALISBURY — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School varsity hockey team faced the Bolton hockey team on Friday, Feb. 12. The final score was 5-2.

Before the match, coach Dean Diamond mused about the game — and the team’s future.

“What we need is a complete defense, to stay out of the box and stay in the zone, Diamond said. “There will not be much room for error in this game.

Despite best-laid plans, by the time the fast-paced game ended, Housy was down 5-2.

Play was aggressive throughout the game, with players on both sides hurling the puck away down the rink and the two teams frantically chasing after it.

Toward the end of the first quarter, team captain Zach Vitali lost his elbow pad on the rink during a play and a few moments later he jammed his elbow hard against the rink glass.

He left the game temporarily, with a swollen elbow, but  came back later in the game and scored Housy’s second goal.

“That is why he is the captain of the team, Diamond said after the match. “It was a great goal. He has a lot of heart.

Diamond had a few theories about what led to the loss.

“We didn’t clear the zone, and it’s hard to come back when one of my main players gets hurt and smashed up, Diamond said.

“We didn’t clear the zone. What are you gonna do?

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
