Frank E. 'Buzz' Petty

DOVER PLAINS — Frank E. “Buzz†Petty, 75, a lifelong resident of Dover Plains, died peacefully on Jan. 27, 2010, at Sharon Hospital.  

On Dec. 12, 1954, in NewMilford, he wed Yvonne Sartori. Together they shared more than 55 years of marriage. Mrs. Petty survives at home.

Born in Sharon on July 11, 1934, he was the son of the late Lois (Ensign) and Frank Petty.

Mr. Petty, or “Buzz†as he was  affectionately known, was a graduate of Dover Plains High School, class of 1952 and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.  

Buzz was the plant superintendent at Amenia Sand and Gravel for more than 40 years prior to his retirement. Buzz also was a life member and past assistant fire chief of the J.H. Ketcham Hose Co. in Dover Plains.  

For many years, he enjoyed bowling, camping in the Catskill Mountains with his family and spending time with his beloved and very spoiled companion, Toto.  

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Bruce Petty and his wife, Carmen, of Dover Plains; a daughter, Robin Saiken and her husband, Jack, of Poway, Calif.; two grandchildren, Robin Tate and her husband, Bill, of Dover Plains and Bruce Petty Jr. of Amenia; one great-granddaughter, Reese Tate of Dover Plains; a brother, Michael Petty of Clayton, N.C.; a sister, Suzanne Morse of Clayton, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.  

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Rae Ducillo of Summerfield, Fla.  

At Mr. Petty’s request,  funeral services and cremation were private. They were held Feb. 1.

Tuning up two passions under one roof

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
