Paulette V. Webb

WINSTED — Paulette V. Webb, 65, died Dec. 5, 2009. She was the loving wife of Clayton Webb for 33 years.

Born Oct. 9, 1944, in Winsted, she was the daughter of the late Leonore (Fifield) and William Lemelin.

Mrs. Webb was employed as an LPN and was a bookkeeper for Clayton E. Webb Jr. Plumbing & Heating. She was an active member of the Winsted Lions Club. She was a great cook who loved bingo, enjoyed taking rides on Sundays and playing the card game 9-5. Mrs. Webb was remembered as the heart of her family and was known as “the Sarge.†She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Valerie Smith and her husband, Scott, of Winsted, Clayton Webb III and his wife, Leslie, of Winsted, Lisa St. Jean and her husband, Ned, of Winsted, Laurie Loring and her husband, Rodney, of Sandisfield, Mass., and David Webb and his wife, Tina, of Winsted; four brothers, Jerry Lemelin, John Lemelin and Joseph Lemelin, all of Winsted, and James Lemelin of New Hampshire; two sisters, Marianne Sobol and Judy Lemelin, both of Winsted; her grandchildren, Ronald, Sherri, Fritz, Ben, Pat, Sain, Heather, Ned, Kyle, Samantha, Tanya, Ashley and Aaron; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Dec. 9 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, Winsted. Burial was to be held at the convenience of the family. The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.
