Fundraiser held for MacIsaac

PINE PLAINS — A benefit banquet for Mark MacIsaac was held Saturday, Sept. 5, at The Backyard Garden behind Tower Pizza in the center of town. MacIsaac was injured July 2 in a fall at his home that caused a major stroke. He was operated on and is slowly recovering at Helen Hayes Hospital in Rockland County.

A chicken barbecue dinner was accompanied by a fire eater, music, a clown, face painting, a 50/50 raffle, silent auction and door prizes.

MacIsaac’s mother, Barbara MacIsaac, said that the event was a great success.

“I would like to thank each and every one who came from far and near to my son Mark’s benefit, she said. “It really turned out so much better than I expected to meet all old friends and many new ones. I hope all had a good time, and I’m very thankful that they were all able to come.

MacIsaac doesn’t have health insurance and hospital costs have been considerable.

In the past two months, MacIsaac has regained his sight and hearing. His mother believes he will regain the ability to talk soon.

“He’s doing pretty well, she said. “But it’s going to be a long time. We’re just hoping that he comes back. We want him to come back all the way. I thank God that he is coming back.

Because he is showing signs of improvement, Mac-
Isaac has been moved to the North East Care Center in Kingston. Anyone wishing to assist MacIsaac financially may send checks to The Mark S. MacIsaac Benefit Fund Account at Stissing National Bank, 2971 Church St., Pine Plains NY 12567. The bank can be reached at 518-398-5711.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
