Bowling bonds businesses

WINSTED — It’s business as unusual at Laurel Lanes on Thursday nights as town businesses compete against each other — not for customers, but for high scores at the alley’s business bowling league.Green Room Café owner Sharry Revillini started the league late last year as a way for business employees to get together.“It’s good to get the small business community together in other places besides meetings. Usually, meetings are the only times we all get to see each other. It’s always a good time for everyone,” Revillini said. Currently there are five teams in the league: The YMCA, The Green Room, Laurel Lanes, town employees and This & That. This & That store owner Reggie Davis said he has bowled 10-pin for most of his life.“Changing over to duckpin has been a challenge,” Davis said. “But it has also been fun.”The league meets at Laurel Lanes at 266 Main St. every Thursday night at 7 p.m.For more information, call the bowling alley at 860-379-5391

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
