Sheriff’s Report

The following information was provided by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office at the Amenia substation. All suspects are considered innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Amenia heist

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of two subjects in connection to commercial burglaries in the town of Amenia during the month of March.

The Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Detective Divisions have been investigating the burglaries, which total three in all, since Wednesday, March 14. All three burglaries occurred at the Pawling Corporation in the hamlet of Wassaic. During all three instances the building was entered during the overnight hours and property stolen. The total amount of property taken, all of which has been recovered, was approximately 2,500 pounds of stainless steel and manufactured aluminum with a value of more than $20,000.

The two subjects allegedly responsible were arrested on Thursday, March 22. One suspect is Hans Greiner, 22, of Amenia. He was charged with three counts of third degree burglary, a class D felony, and one count of third degree grand larceny, a class D felony. The other suspect is Gina Delpino-Bevens, 24, of Amenia. She was charged with one count of third degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class D felony.

Both subjects were arraigned at the town of Amenia court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of bail; Greiner at $10,000 cash/$20,000 bond, Delpino-Bevens at $1,000 cash.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.
