HoPP’s Valentine dance a success

PINE PLAINS — The Heart of Pine Plains (HoPP) Community Center and The Stissing House hosted a Valentine’s fundraiser to benefit the HoPP on Saturday, Feb 11.“We had a really great turnout,” said Samantha Cole, marketing chair for the HoPP.A total of 67 tickets were sold and attendees were treated to a night of food and dancing, and for some, perhaps, romance.“We’re very appreciative for all the attendees. There were several philanthropic events to choose from that weekend,” she said.Guests enjoyed a full spread of tapas and desserts that were generously donated by several volunteers and attendees.DJ Zane played music covering all genres and decades.“He didn’t forget the HoPP theme song. You guessed it — ‘Let’s go to the Hop,’” Cole said.Cole said the HoPP would like to thank Patricia and Michel Jean as well as The Stissing House for their generosity.“Without them this fundraiser wouldn’t have been able to have 100 percent of its proceeds go directly to the community it serves,” she said.For more information about the HoPP and its programs, visit www.thehopp.org.

Water main cleaning in North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN – Aquarion Water Company today announced a water main cleaning project in the company’s North Canaan system. Tuning up two passions under one roof

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
