Peter R. Stapf Sr.

PINE PLAINS — Peter R. Stapf Sr., 88, passed away Jan. 17, 2012, at Sharon Health Care Center.He was born in Tuckahoe, N.Y., the son of the late Otilya (Guies) and Joseph Stapf.Mr. Stapf was a machine operator for the town of Pine Plains highway department. He proudly served his country with the U. S. Army.He married Dorothy M. Fountain on Aug. 8, 1948, in Amenia. She predeceased him in 1992. Peter is survived by three sons, Robert Sr. and his wife, Sandra Stapf, of Millerton, Peter R. Jr. and his wife, Donna Stapf, of Niskayuna, N.Y., and John and his wife, Jane Stapf, of Pine Plains; three daughters, Barbara and her husband, Everett Holdridge, of Zephyrhills, Fla., Deborah and her husband, Terry Bryant, of Ancram, and Wendy and her husband, George Lind, of Millerton; 16 grandchildren, Michelle, Robin, Robert Jr., Kristofer, Tammy, Candy, Michael, Donna, Valerie, Renea, Steven, Christopher, Derek, Justin, Jessica and Jason; 18 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Adriana, MacKenzie, Addison, Nicholas, Matthew, Samantha, Sarah, Emily, Kaleb, Cameron, Hannah, Ava, Cecilia, Brianna, Jaylen, Alexis and Luke. There are no calling hours.A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
