Norman William Wilcox

SHARON — Norman William Wilcox passed away on July 13, 2019, at Sharon Hospital at the age of 91. 

He was the son of Julia (Bowne) and Albert D. Wilcox.  He lived all his life in Sharon. He was married to Catherine (Palmer) Wilcox for 65 years.

Norman dedicated his life to the family dairy farm until 1974. He then joined the Maintenance Department at Sharon Hospital, where he worked for 18 years.  

He enjoyed nature photography, camping and traveling. He was a member of the Housatonic Camera Club for many years.  He and his wife drove across the U.S. 18 times, visiting all but four states, including driving to and exploring Alaska for three months.  

He and his wife then started traveling internationally with the Connecticut Dairy Tours to Ireland, Scotland, Spain and Portugal, and with both of his daughters and grandson to France and Italy. The last trip was to Norway and Denmark with his wife and daughter.  

Each trip included visits to various local farms, from the arborio rice farms of Italy, Charlais cattle of France, cheese making in the mountains of Norway, woolens and Waterford Crystal in Ireland and various other farms and vineyards.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Laure Peterson and her husband, Alan, of Dedham, Mass.; a brother, Roy Wilcox; and a sister, Irene Ruggiero of Sharon; a grandson, Joshua Fontaine and his wife, Christina, of North Haven, Conn.; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Lucy Fontaine; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Fontaine, and her husband, John; and his sisters, Winifred Grindrod, Dorothy Deane and Barbara Wilcox. 

A graveside ceremony is scheduled for Friday, July 19, at 11  a.m. at the Cornwall Hollow Cemetery. The Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon has charge of the arrangements.
