Marion S. Carley

NORTH CANAAN — Marion S. Carley of North Canaan and Venice, Fla., also known as “Molly” to her family, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2019.

Marion was born in Portage Lake, Maine, in 1931, to Violet (Bernard) and Bertrand Sutherland. She was the youngest of four brothers and three sisters.

For 20 years she worked as a nurse’s aide for children with disabilities and birth defects, sharing her natural charisma and nurturing personality with the community.

Molly was an animal lover, who especially enjoyed her St. Bernards.

She was a quilter, reader and avid traveler. Even with her love of travel, she could always be found caring for her family, or playing very competitive card games with her grandchildren at the kitchen table.

For the last 23 years she wintered in Venice with her husband, but always looked forward to returning home to North Canaan — to the home where she and Henry resided for the past 63 years.

She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 63 years, Henry G. Carley Jr. of North Canaan; her son, Edward and his wife, Heather Carley, of Brentwood, N.H.; and three adored grandchildren, Alexander, Sarah and Coreen of Brentwood.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the North Canaan Volunteer Ambulance, 15 Main St., North Canaan, CT 06018.
