Brrr-ave souls raise $80,000 for Special Olympics

WINSTED — They took flying leaps, cannonballed, dove, dashed and tiptoed. Whatever their method, about 85 brave souls comprising 15 teams made a huge splash as they entered Highland Lake’s bone-chilling waters on Saturday, March 9, during the 16th annual Penguin Plunge to benefit Special Olympics. 

The popular, high-noon community event, which organizers said raised about $80,000 for the cause, drew hundreds of spectators under azure skies and seasonably comfortable 45 degree weather. Teams hailed from throughout the region.
