Jon Edward Wordell

LAKEVILLE — Jon Edward Wordell passed away Feb. 13, 2019, at his home in South Chatham, Mass., surrounded by family. 

Jon was born in Fall River, Mass., in 1943. He was the son of the late Eunisa (Greenlaw) and Dr. Arnold Wordell. 

He graduated from Proctor Academy in Andover, N.H., and Oglethorpe University in Norcross, Ga. 

He moved with his growing family to Lakeville and taught math and science at Indian Mountain School. During that time, he ran a summer school for students called the Chatharbor Summer Program on the family property in South Chatham.  

He later accepted a position in the Harwich, Mass., public school system and taught  math and science, and implemented their first computer programs. 

Upon retirement, he continued to run Pine Oak Village, his family summer rental business on Cockle Cove Road in South Chatham and enjoyed vacationing at properties in Maine and Georgia.

He is survived by his wife, Toni (Kendrick) Wordell; his brother, Nathaniel and sister-in-law Joy Wordell of South Chatham; his daughters, Leslie and son-in-law James McGuire of Falmouth, Mass., Laurie and son-in-law Christopher Wadsworth of Falls Village and Kimberly and son-in-law Richard Robbins of South Chatham; his sons,  Mark Wordell of Franklin, N.C., and Derek Wordell of Dixfield, Maine; a  daughter-in-law, Mae (Baker) Wordell of Harwich, Mass.; and the mother of his children, Carolyn (Barber) Wordell of Musselburgh, Scotland.  

He was predeceased by his son Jonathan Wordell in 2015.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a nephew.

Jon had a special love of animals and requested that donations in his name be made to MSPCA or The Animal Rescue League in Brewster or Centerville, Mass. 

Burial will be private.
