MILLERTON — Walter “Eli” Brandt, sitting in the Irving Farm coffee shop on Monday morning, Jan. 13, said, “I’m not a writer.”

Nearby was a display highlighting his just-published book, “Travels and Times of a Drunk Named Eli.”

He is also a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, committed by his step-father.

Brandt said he started writing what became the book for his adult children.
