Town eases property tax burden on farmers

FALLS VILLAGE — Both the Board of Finance and the Board of Selectmen in Falls Village approved a new town ordinance raising the property tax exemption on farm equipment to $200,000 at their regular monthly meetings on Monday, Jan. 14.

First Selectman Henry Todd explained that a new tractor costs around $130,000 and a new combine about $100,000 and said he didn’t think it would be fair to subject such items to property tax.

The boards agreed. The ordinance will be an agenda item at the next town meeting.
