Dorothy “Dottie / Flossy” (Riiska) Jacquier

EAST CANAAN — Dorothy “Dottie / Flossy” (Riiska) Jacquier, 88, passed away peacefully at her home Jan. 13, 2019, preparing lunch for all at Laurelbrook Farm, which is what she loved to do. 

Born in Winsted on Aug.14, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Bertha (Lagier) and Frank Riiska. 

Dottie was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, Robert Jacquier. They began farming in 1948 and founded Laurelbrook Farm in 1950. 

Flossy was a devoted wife and mother. She supported many organizations and was a very active member of the community and the dairy industry. She served on the Connecticut Dairy Industry Council, dedicating her life to being a promoter of dairy. Flossy was a lifelong member of the North Canaan Congregational Church and the Litchfield County 4-H Foundation. She was a leader of the Happy Hemmers and Busy Stitchers 4-H Clubs and active with The Busy Farmers. She was a strong supporter of the Housatonic Valley FFA Chapter.

Dottie is survived by her loving sons, David and his wife, Melody, and Peter  and his wife, Jean, of East Canaan and Phillip and his wife, Elaine, of Southwick, Mass. Her legacy will live on through the lives of her 10 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. 

Flossy was predeceased by her daughter Cynthia Adams; her beloved husband, Robert; her grandson, Scott; and her granddaughter, Ashlee Jacquier.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at her home, 390 Norfolk Road, East Canaan. The funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. at the North Canaan Congregational Church. Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery, East Canaan, immediately after.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Litchfield County 4-H Foundation, 843 University Drive, Torrington, CT 06790.

Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.
