Whiting joins Dutchess Day

MILLBROOK — Dutchess Day School announces that Christine Whiting has joined the administration as director of admissions and tuition assistance.

Whiting has been involved with independent schools since childhood, as her father was a head of school and her mother was a teacher. She graduated from the Kent School and St. Lawrence University and began her professional career in the development office at Rippowam Cisqua School. She then worked in the development office and taught language skills at Rumsey Hall School. After eight years at Rumsey, Whiting and her family relocated to Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie. While at Oakwood, she was a dorm parent and a middle school teacher and assisted with the middle school admissions process.

Whiting is energetic, creative and organized, and she fully supports an independent school education.

“We are thrilled to welcome her to the Dutchess Day community,” stated Head of Dutchess Day School Nancy Hathaway. “She truly understands that solid academic skills and self-confidence developed in the early years are the keys to future school success.”

Whiting, her husband, Dave, and their two sons will be living in Millbrook and are looking forward to becoming involved at Dutchess Day and in the greater Millbrook community.

Dutchess Day School is a pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade school located in Millbrook. For more information, visit www.dutchessday.org.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
