ANNUAL MEETING

THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 2019 at 7 PM

MUNICIPAL OFFICES, 108 MAIN STREET, FALLS VILLAGE, CONNECTICUT 06031

Electors and others qualified to vote at town meeting are hereby warned of an Annual Town Meeting for the Town of Canaan, Falls Village, Connecticut to be held at the Municipal Offices at 108 Main Street on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 7 PM to act on the following:

 1. To Receive, review and act upon the Annual Auditors Report for fiscal year 2017-18.

 2. To receive, review and act upon the report of the offices of the Town of Canaan.

 3. To appoint the following as the official depositories of the Treasurer of the Town of Canaan: National Iron Bank, Salisbury; Salisbury Bank and Trust, Salisbury and North Canaan; Torrington Savings Bank, Falls Village and Litchfield Bancorp, Salisbury.

 4. Shall the Town of Canaan approve an appropriation of up to $6500 from the Computer Reserve Account #51001454 to replace our Server, along with an attached NAS (Network Attached Storage)?

 5. Shall The Town of Canaan rescind the ordinance dated May 31, 1951 establishing a Water Commission in order to bring the waterworks directly under the control of the Board of Selectmen?

 6. Shall the Town of Canaan approve closing Fire Equipment Reserve account #51001548, amounting to $137.56, and move said funds in their entirety to Fire Truck Reserve account #51001405?

 7. Shall the Town of Canaan approve an ordinance pertaining to the feeding of bears?

Procedure for the proceedings: Roberts Rules of Order will prevail, where not in conflict with Parliamentary Law. In accordance with the principles of a deliberative meeting under both Roberts Rule and Parliamentary Law, participation will be reserved to those present. CANAAN FIRE DISTRICT

Sewer use charges are due in a single payment on January 1, 2019 and within one month. Any portion unpaid after February 1, 2019 will become delinquent and subject to an interest charge of 1.5% per month. Payments may be made to the Tax Collector’s Office in the Town Hall at 100 Pease Street, North Canaan. During the month of January we will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 9-12 and 1-4 PM, Closed Tuesday, January 1 & Friday, February 1, open Monday, December 31. All Town Hall offices are closed on Fridays. Payments may be mailed to 100 Pease Street #5, North Canaan, Connecticut 06018. For your convenience a drop box for payments is located in front of the Town Hall. Pay online at www.northcanaan.org As soon as any tax becomes delinquent, it shall be subject to interest at the rate of one-half percent of such tax for each month or fraction thereof which elapses from the time when such tax becomes due and payable until the same is paid. TOWN OF CANAAN

Pursuant to Sec. 12-145 of the Connecticut statutes, the Tax Collector, Town of Canaan gives notice that she will be ready to receive Supplemental Motor Vehicle taxes and the 2nd installment of Real Estate & Personal Property taxes due January 1, 2019 at the Canaan Town Hall, PO Box 47, 108 Main St., Falls Village, CT 06031. Monday’s 9-12, 1-4 and Wednesdays 9-Noon.

Payments must be received or postmarked by February 1, 2019 to avoid interest. The office will not be open on Friday Feb. 1st.

All taxes remaining unpaid after February 1, 2019 will be charged interest from January 1, 2019 at the rate of 1.5% for each month from the due date of the delinquent tax to the date of payment, with a minimum interest charge of $2.00. Sec. 12-146

Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the taxpayer of their responsibility for the payment of taxes or delinquent charges. Sec.12-30.

TOWN OF SALISBURY CT

Pursuant to Sec 12-145 of the Connecticut State Statutes, the taxpayers of the Town of Salisbury are hereby notified that the third installment on the Grand List of October 1, 2017 is due and payable on January 1, 2019. Pursuant to Section 12-71b of the Connecticut State Statutes, the Supplemental Motor Vehicle tax is due on January 1, 2019. Payments must be received or post marked by February 1, 2019. If said Real Estate, Personal Property and Supplemental Motor Vehicle taxes are not paid on or before February 1, 2019, interest at the rate of one and one half percent (18% per year) will be added for each month or a fraction thereof which elapses from the time when such tax becomes due and payable until the same is paid. Minimum interest charge is $2.00.

 Notice is hereby given to all taxpayers of the Town of North Canaan, Connecticut that the second installment of taxes on the Grand List of October 1, 2017 will become due and payable on January 1, 2019 and will become delinquent if not paid on or before February 1, 2019. The motor vehicle supplement bills for vehicles newly registered after October 1, 2017 will become due and payable January 1, 2019. If you have received a supplemental bill you are responsible to pay the 2nd half of your 2017 Grand List Motor Vehicle bill (received July 2018) also as well as the supplemental bill. They will become delinquent if not paid by February 1, 2019.

Permit Application

Town of North Canaan

Canaan Fire District

 Notice is hereby given that the Canaan Fire District of North Canaan will submit to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection an application under section 22a-430 of the Connecticut General Statutes for a permit to initiate, create, originate or maintain a discharge of water, substance or material to the waters of the state.

Specifically, the applicant proposes to treat and discharge 400,000 GPD Domestic Sewage to the Blackberry River. The proposed activity will take place at 251 West Main Street, North Canaan, Connecticut. The proposed activity will potentially affect the Blackberry River.

NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS

Pursuant to Section 12-145 of the Connecticut General Statutes, notice is hereby given to the taxpayers of the TOWN OF CORNWALL that the second half payment on the Grand List of October 1, 2017 is due January 1, 2019.

Supplemental Motor Vehicle Taxes are also due January 1, 2019, according to Section 12-71b for vehicles registered after October 1, 2017 and prior to August 1, 2018.

If tax payment is not paid on or before February 1, 2019, said tax will become delinquent as of that date and subject to interest at the rate of ONE AND ONE-HALF percent per month or fraction thereof from January 1, 2019 until tax is paid. The minimum interest charge is $2.00.
