Summer splash!

Young people, friends and families were at Highland Lake Tuesday, June 21, celebrating the first day of summer with a splash. Well, at least people in their teens and younger seemed to be enjoying the water, while their elders sunbathed at Holland Beach and scoffed at the early-season cold water. Many of the rental signs around the lake have been taken down and the influx of summer vacationers has already begun. For Winstedites and visitors, the Winchester Recreation Department announced a number of new programs for youths happening this summer (see page 5), including a swimming program at the lake and a variety of outdoor activities organized for the annual summer day camp. Parking passes for Highland Lake’s beach parking lots are available at Town Hall, 338 Main St. The town clerk’s office can be reached at 860-738-6963 and Town Manager Dale Martin is at 860-738-6962.
