Eric E. Haight

CLINTON CORNERS — Eric E. Haight, 74, passed away June 13, 2011, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie after a short illness.He was born in Poughkeepsie on March 29, 1937, the son of the late Thelma (Coffin) and Paul Haight.He was a member of the Ralph T. Waterman Bird Club, Sharon Audubon and the Stanford Historical Society. He also was a former member of Stanford Fire Company. He enjoyed hiking, walking the Rail Trail and bird watching and was an avid Red Sox fan. Mr. Haight coached the Stanford Twins Little League team. Most of all he was a kind and loving man, who put everyone else first. He worked for IBM as a technician in East Fishkill, N.Y. After retirement he and his brother had a lawn mowing service for several years in Stanfordville.Survivors include a loving companion, Diane Eaton of Clinton Corners; a son, Matthew Haight and his companion, Trish Taylor, of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Oliver Orton; four nephews, Christopher, Thomas, Irving Paul Haight Jr., and Ryan; and two nieces, Catherine and Allison.He was predeceased by a brother, Irving P. Haight Sr. A memorial service was held June 18 at the United Church of Christ, the Rev. Rhoda Starzyk officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stanford Fire Co., Stanfordville, NY 12581. The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
