It’s not that the tomatoes broke my spirit or anything. I just couldn’t face growing them again this year. 

And it turns out that was a good decision. This was not a banner year for tomatoes; it was too cool and wet. There wasn’t a hideous blight like the one we  had a few years ago, but everyone I know who has tomato plants has complained to me that they’ll feel lucky if they get some ripe fruit by October.
