Winnie Washburn

WEST CORNWALL — Winnie Washburn, 82, died Aug. 29, 2018, at Wangum Village, her home for four years.  She was the loving wife of the late William Washburn.

Winnie was born Oct. 29, 1935, in Hudson, N.Y., the daughter of the late Cynthia and Jacob Buck.  

At age 13, she moved to Salisbury. Winnie graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School. 

She worked at a bank in Hartford, Salisbury Bank and Trust, Becton Dickinson and Ed Hamilton Books for more than 28 years; she retired in 2014.

She is survived by a son, Guy; a daughter, Billie Jean; four grandchildren, Cody, Erik, Ryan and Connor.  

She was predeceased by a son, Mark; her brothers, Luther and Robert; and a sister, Mary.

Winnie enjoyed going to softball games, bowling and playing horseshoes, besides life in general. She was a big-time fan of the Red Sox, the New England Patriots and the UConn Women.  She also loved to watch tennis and NASCAR.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lime Rock on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at BJ’s house, 349 Kent Road South, Cornwall Bridge.  

Memorial donations may be made to the Cornwall Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance, West Cornwall, CT 06796.
