Steven Grover Straiton

KENT — Steven Grover Straiton of Kent passed away on Aug. 15, 2018, after a brief but fierce battle with pancreatic cancer.  

Steven was born on Dec.10, 1968, in Danbury, Conn., and was raised in New Fairfield, Conn. 

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Kasey Leo Straiton; his mother, Jean Straiton of New Fairfield; his sister and her husband, Gale and Kevin Plank of Danbury; his brother and his wife, Raymond and Tina Straiton of South Paris, Maine; as well as nieces, nephews, in-laws, and numerous friends, all of whom shared in Steven’s life. 

He was predeceased by his father, Raymond Straiton Sr.  

Friends and family will remember Steven as kind, hard-working, devoted and extremely funny.

Steven graduated from Henry Abbott Technical High School in 1986. He earned an associate’s degree from Naugatuck Valley Community College and later returned to school to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut. 

He was a territory manager for EBP Supply Solutions of Milford, Conn., for the last seven years.

Stemming from his years with the Boy Scouts, he held a love of the outdoors, enjoyed hiking with his dog, and fishing whenever he could. He especially loved fly-fishing the local rivers and streams.  He also looked forward to the fun and relaxation of his annual vacation to Block Island, R.I., with Kasey and her family. 

He loved music and was a skilled though humble guitarist. Steven and Kasey’s favorite pastime was attending concerts of their favorite musicians.

Steven’s family wishes to extend gratitude to his wonderful medical teams at the Praxair Cancer Center and the Regional Hospice Center of Connecticut.  They also wish to thank Steven’s friends, neighbors and community for their generosity and support during his illness.

Calling hours will be  Saturday, Aug. 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford.
