Louise C. Brusie

Millerton – Louise C. Brusie, 79, an eighteen year resident of Boston Corners Road, Millerton, NY, formerly of Copake, NY, died Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at her home in the presence of her loving family.

Born June 21, 1936 in the Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ludwig and Ilse (Opitz) Schafer. On November 3, 1956 she married Orrin R. Brusie. Together they shared nearly sixty years of marriage. Mr. Brusie survives at home.

A wife and mother of three, a farmer and registered nurse, gardener, seamstress and homemaker, Louise will be fondly remembered as being hugely happy in all of her endeavors. Louise was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lakeville, CT, for many years. She will be missed by all.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters; Ellen (Tim) McCauliffe of Parker, CO, Kimberley (Jim Perotti) Brusie of Copake Falls, NY and Linda (Jeff) Pulver of Millerton, NY; two sisters; Sally Berry and Mary Ann Robinson; five grandchildren, Justin, Scott, Valerie, Laura and Jenny; four great grandchildren, Connor, Emma, Fox and Gunner; her sister in law, Maryann Schafer and several nieces and nephews.

Louise was predeceased by her beloved brother Herbert Schafer of Ancram, NY.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 5-8pm at the Scott D. Conklin Funeral Home, 37 Park Avenue, Millerton, NY 12546. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 76 Sharon Road, Lakeville, CT 06039. The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
