Search begins for new school head

CORNWALL — The search for a new principal for Cornwall Consolidated School is about to get underway. A job posting and the formation of a committee are the first steps, and will begin soon.Principal Robert Vaughan announced Feb. 15 that he will retire, after spending two years on the job but after 38 years working in education. He replaced Principal Kathleen Fitzgibbons. People have already expressed an interest in serving on the search committee, Region One Superintendent Patricia Chamberlain told the school board at its March 15 meeting. Board members agreed at the meeting that the approach undertaken two years ago (when Dr. Fitz announced her resignation) should be used again. That process included a committee that included school staff as well as parents and other members of the community. Public forums were also held. Chamberlain said an online survey is being considered, and input will be sought from the faculty.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
