Jamie O. DeBerry

FALLS VILLAGE — Jamie O. DeBerry, 43, died March 10, 2011, while vacationing with a co-worker in Ambato, Ecuador. Jamie was born Feb. 8, 1968, at Sharon Hospital. He was a son of Pauline (Miller) DeBerry of Falls Village and the late James DeBerry.Jamie was a graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School. Following graduation, he went to work for the Specialty Minerals Company in North Canaan, where he was still employed as a Wire Technician II. Jamie devoted his life to his four children. He enjoyed traveling and cooking, especially grilling.In addition to his mother Jamie is survived by his four children, Jamison DeBerry of Ashley Falls, Mass., and Angelisa, Mikayla and Victoria DeBerry all of Winsted; his sisters, Marva Palmer of East Hartford, Lillie Miller of Torrington, Melissa Wilson of Sharon and Alledra Howard of Torrington. Jamie was predeceased by his brother, Jarrett DeBerry.Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 21, at noon in the North Canaan Methodist Church. Burial will be in Salisbury Cemetery later in the spring. Calling hours will be held at the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan on Monday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be sent to the Jamie DeBerry Children’s Fund in care of the Torrington Savings Bank, PO Box 474, Falls Village, CT 06031.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
