WARNING OF REFERENDUM

Regional School District No. 1

A referendum vote of the electors and citizens qualified to vote in the towns of Canaan, Cornwall, Kent, North Canaan, Salisbury, and Sharon, Connecticut, will be held in said towns at the following places:

Town Hall of Canaan

Town Hall of Cornwall

Town Hall of Kent

Town Hall of North Canaan

Town Hall of Salisbury

Town Hall of Sharon

Pursuant to Section 10-56 of the Connecticut General Statutes, Revision of 1958, as amended, this referendum is for the purpose of voting on the Regional School District No. 1 budget for the 2018-2019 school year.

The polls will be open from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. The question to be voted on, adopted by the Regional School District No. 1 Board of Education at a meeting held on Monday, May 7, 2018, will be placed on the ballot as the following question:

 “Shall the combined net budget for Regional School District No. 1 (Housatonic Valley Regional High School, Pupil Services Center and Regional Schools Services Center) for fiscal year 2018-2019 in the amount of $15,777,308 be approved? Vote “Yes” or vote “No”.

DISTRICT MEETING

Regional School District No. 1

The District meeting of the Regional School District No. 1 of Litchfield County, will be held in the library of the Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, Connecticut on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to adjourn to a vote on the approval or rejection of the proposed combined net budget for Regional School District No. 1 (Housatonic Valley Regional High School, Pupil Services Center, Regional Schools Services Center) for fiscal year 2017-2018 in the amount of $15,777, 308 at a referendum to be held in each town in Regional School District No. 1 on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.

All electors and citizens qualified to vote in the towns of Canaan, Cornwall, Kent, North Canaan, Salisbury, and Sharon are invited to attend. Copies of said budget will be available at the office of the Superintendent of Schools, office of the Principal and at the offices of the Town Clerk of the towns comprising said district, five (5) days in advance of this meeting.

The purpose of the meeting is to hear public comment on the proposed spending plan of the Town of Canaan for fiscal year 2018-2019. Copies of the spending plan will be available at the Town Hall prior to the hearing.

NOTICE OF 

TOWN MEETING

MAY 9, 2018

The electors and others entitled to vote in Town meetings of the Town of Salisbury, Connecticut, are hereby warned that the Annual Budget meeting of said Town will be held at the Salisbury Town Hall, 27 Main Street, Salisbury, Connecticut on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. for the following purposes:

1. To act upon the budget and any supplements thereto for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2018, which budget has been prepared and recommended by the Board of Finance; said budget is available for inspection at the Town Clerk’s office immediately.
     2. To act upon the following items, which are customarily considered at the Annual Budget meeting for approval:
a. To authorize the Board of Selectmen to borrow any sums of money they deem necessary to meet the Town’s indebtedness and current or authorized expenditures, and to execute and deliver the Town’s obligations therefore;
b. To see if the First Selectman will deliver on behalf of the Town all documents that may be necessary for carrying out any of the items in the budget;
c. To see if the Town will authorize the Board of Selectmen to accept and expend any funds allocated to the Town of Salisbury by the Connecticut Department of Transportation for repairs and maintenance of roads and bridges during the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2018, and extending to June 30, 2019, as recommended by the Board of Finance; and
d. To authorize the Board of Finance to transfer funds from surplus to cover shortages in various line items in the 2017-2018 budget.
  3. To act upon the approval of an expenditure not to exceed $2,521,000.00 for improvements to the Water Pollution Control Authority plant at 50 Walton Street and portions of its associated collection system.

4. To act upon the approval of a rental agreement for a duplex apartment at property owned by the Town and located at 414 Millerton Road for a term of one year, beginning on or about June 15, 2018, with the identity of the tenant and the final terms of the lease to be determined by a majority of the Board of Selectmen.

5. To act upon the approval of a rental agreement for the operation of an ice cream parlor in two unoccupied rooms at property owned by the Town and known as the former Lakeville Train Station, for a period of six months, to Seth Churchill or another tenant selected by a majority of the Board of Selectmen, with the final terms of the lease to be determined by a majority of the Board of Selectmen.

6. To act upon the approval of the designation of the Elizabeth M. Case House, located at 4 Main Street, and the Landowska House, located at 63 Millerton Road, as Historic Properties in the Town of Salisbury.
    7. To do any other business proper to come before said meeting.Dated at Salisbury, Connecticut this 13th day of April, 2018.
