Some trophies on a warm first day of fishing

Mother Nature stopped fooling around long enough to provide a decent day for the opening of general regulations fishing on Saturday, April 14.

At Beckley Furnace along the Blackberry River in North Canaan, there was a group of men spin-casting from the bridge at about 9:30 a.m.

They reported no action.

Below, actually in the water and in range of the bridge anglers’ lines, was Brian Kinney of Bristol, who was using a vintage Orvis 7-foot 9-inch 5-weight rod, a full sinking line and a beadhead olive Wooly Bugger, size eight.
