ERICA KAVANAGH : Housatonic student of the week

The Lakeville Journal congratulates the honorees of the student of the week program at Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

FALLS VILLAGE — Erica Kavanagh is a sophomore from West Cornwall. She is a student in good standing with a B+ grade point average.

Her favorite course is biology with Ms. Garcia-Tripp. She is often on the academic honor roll. She is an active member of the American Field Service club and is very involved in athletics. During the fall season for the last two years she was an important member of the girls soccer team. Erica is on the swim team in the winter and plays lacrosse in the spring. She played lacrosse as a freshman and has this to say about that experience: “It was pretty scary being a freshman, but my lacrosse team was very nice, supportive and helped me when I needed it. I can’t wait for this season!

Erica continues her sports in the summer and likes to have a variety of summer jobs, including dog walking. She loves being with friends and enjoys real good soccer competition.

Erica is a great example of a typical “fun loving student-athlete at Housatonic Valley Regional High School who enjoys both academic and athletic success.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
