Hiker falls; five towns respond

LAKEVILLE — It took 40 volunteer firefighters and EMS workers from five towns in three states nearly 9 hours to rescue an injured hiker near the Race Brook falls in Sheffield on Thursday, Feb. 1.

Brent Getchell is chief of the all-volunteer Sheffield Fire Department. He coordinated the operation, which also included volunteers from Egremont, Mass., Lakeville and both Copake and Millerton in New York.
