Plenty of mischief on night before Halloween

KENT — Halloween weekend was not a quiet one for the town, according to First Selectman Bruce Adams.

At the Board of Selectman’s regular meeting on Nov. 2, Adams said that State Police Troop L responded to multiple incidents during the night of Saturday, Oct. 30, and the morning of Sunday, Oct. 31.

The police reported that several pieces of furniture and flower pots were moved to the center of the roadway on North Main Street; there were reports of intoxicated people loitering around town; and there were two fights at local bars that police responded to.

No arrests made.

Adams also provided a report from the state police of calls in September. There were 172 calls for service, 122 nonreportable incidents, 8 motor vehicle accidents, 14 criminal investigations, 17 motor vehicle citations and 13 written warnings.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
