Moped accident closes Route 44

Following a moped accident on Wednesday, Nov. 22, Route 44 in North Canaan was briefly closed.

Richard Hodgson, 59, of North Canaan was traveling east on Route 44 at about 1:45 p.m. on a moped. According to the police report, he was traveling too fast for conditions and slid into the westbound travel lane. He was “ejected” from the moped, police said, and “his forehead collided into the paved surface.”

North Canaan ambulance transported him to Sharon Hospital for severe lacerations on his forehead.
