Frederick W. Kling

GOSHEN — Frederick W. Kling, 76, died June 25, 2010, at Rose Haven in Litchfield, after a battle with cancer. He was the husband of Agnes (Wheeler) Kling, whom he married on Aug. 28, 1953. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this August.  

Mr. Kling was born March 23, 1934, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, a son of the late Mary (Scully) and John Kling.

Mr. Kling was employed by the A&P Tea Company. He managed the liquor departments in three different A&P stores, in Winsted, Bristol and Enfield. He retired on Oct. 11, 1997, after 37 years with the A&P.  

Prior to that he had served eight years with the United States Air Force.  

The Klings were members of the First Church of Christ Congregational in Cornwall.  Mr. Kling enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening around his home in Goshen.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Kling is survived by his two sons,  Allan E. Kling of Salt Point, N.Y., and Steven J. Kling and his wife, Karen, of Pensacola, Fla.; his brother, John “Jackâ€� Kling of Cornwall; two granddaughters, Rachel Foster and Nicole Brabec; and his great-granddaughter, Taylor Foster.

Funeral services were held June 29 at the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan. Burial followed in Cornwall Hollow Cemetery.

Water main cleaning in North Canaan

Tuning up two passions under one roof

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”

Blues legend Robert Cray will be bringing his stinging, funky guitar and soulful singing to Infinity Hall Norfolk on Friday, March 29.

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance.
