Bicyclists a pleasing sight

I thoroughly enjoy seeing the cyclists in Millerton on the weekend of the Harlem Valley Rail Ride, and this year was no exception. With the enhancement of perfect weather, I witnessed the happy faces of the riders even at the end of the route when they would have been exhausted from pedaling (some up to 100 miles).

The event is well-run, with thanks to BB Cycling (Bob Bagomolny and Beth Katz) and their huge team of helpers.

I have heard feedback from participants who love our area and are excited to be here. While here, they “give back” to our community by going to local restaurants, staying in area inns and motels, shopping in the stores, attending the movies etc.

Our nonprofit organizations also help out in various capacities and reap the benefits by receiving donations for their causes.

If it were not for events such as this and others that bring people to Millerton we would be a “dying town” similar to many others in the area.  It’s wonderful to see that Millerton (my home town) is “alive and well.”
