Allyn Hurlburt Jr.

CORNWALL — Allyn Hurlburt Jr., 79, of Cornwall died at his home on April 13, 2010.

He was born March 27, 1931, the son of the late Emily (Sedgwick) and Allyn Hurlburt.

A graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School, class of 1948, he worked on the family dairy farm after high school. He lived in Cornwall for his entire life.  

He was awarded the Connecticut Dairyman of the Year Award in 1979. He was also a former first selectman.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Anita, he is survived by their three daughters, Patricia Huntington, Nancy Hohlfelder and Jennifer Markow; and five sons, Allyn III, Richard, William, David and James; and 24 grandchildren.  

He was predeceased by a son, John.

Memorial services were held at the North Cornwall Meeting House on April 17. Burial was in Cornwall Hollow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cornwall Ambulance Fund, PO Box 180, West Cornwall, CT 06796 or to Dr. John Maris Neuroblastoma Research Program, care of Children’s Hospital Foundation, 3615 Civic Center Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19104-4318.

Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
