Sharon bridge scores March 4

SHARON — There were six full tables for duplicate bridge at Good Neighbors, 1 Low Road, on Feb. 24.  It was a stormy day, with a lot of snow that turned to rain and slush. A great afternoon to be huddled with congenial, bright friends trying to keep old brains from atrophying.

We played five boards a round, and had a skip after three rounds so all pairs played 25 boards.  The average score was 50, so the number of points is the same as the percentage of play.

The winners: For North South pairs, in first with 56.5 points were Cindy Rubicam and Dick Collins; in second with 55 points were Wendy Summer and John Bevan, and in third with 53.5 points were Carol Magowan and George Mason.

For East West pairs, in first with 65 points were Biz Rogers and Marguerite McGrath; in second with 60 points were Harry Rubicam and Robert Finn, and in third with 52.5 points were  Kit Kellogg and Rusty Chandler.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
