Salvatore Bazzano

WINSTED — Salvatore Bazzano, 102, formerly of Elm Street, died Feb. 8, 2010, at Laurel Hill Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Giuseppina (Gianni) Bazzano, who died in 2006.

Born in Floridia, Sicily, he came to Winsted in 1955. He was a mason for Negri Construction, retired from Sterling Engineering and later became a school crossing guard. He was a veteran of the Italian Army during World War II, a communicant of St. Joseph Church and member of the Garibaldi Society.

His survivors include a son, Carmelo Bazzano and his wife, Joanne; three daughters, Anna Zappula and her husband, Emilio, Sebastiana Fontana and her husband, Gaetano, and Maria Bazzano, all of Winsted; six grandchildren, Frank and Salvatore Zapppula, Lucy Morel duBoil, Salvatore Bazzano, Carmen Bazzano and Jennifer Archer; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m.,from the Maloney Funeral Home to St. Joseph Church for the funeral liturgy at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s New Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to Mass.

The family would like to thank the staff of Laurel Hill Health Care for the loving care and friendship that were shown during the time Mr. Bazzano lived there. Cabaret comes to St. Andrew's in Kent

Music in the Nave will again tap into local talent April 6 at 7 p.m. when its features George Potts in an intimate cabaret concert in the St. Andrew’s Church parish house.

Pott is a well-known figure in the community, both through his presence in the perennially popular Fife ‘n Drum, the restaurant started by his father-in-law, renowned pianist Dolph Trayman, and through his own career as a folk musician.
