Death on Brace Mountain caused by heavy winds

MILLERTON— Tragedy struck on Tuesday, April 11,  when  Varick Stringham, 44, of Claverack, N.Y., died after his power-glider (a para-glider with a motor attached) crashed into Brace Mountain in Taconic State Park, near Millerton. 

For the last few years, Stringham was an active power-glider pilot with the Mount Brace Outdoor Club in Millerton. He was also active in motorcycle and car racing. Last summer, Stringham qualified for a P3 Intermediate rating in power-gliding, according to Mount Brace Outdoor Club President Joachim Roesler.
